Terms and conditions

These terms explain the rules for buying, selling, optional protected checkout, and operating a business storefront on Makett.

Effective 12 September 2026

1. About these terms

These terms form an agreement between you and Makett when you access or use our website, accounts, marketplace listings, auctions, messaging links, verification tools, and business features. Makett is intended for people and businesses in Nigeria. By using Makett, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement.

2. Marketplace role

Makett provides technology that helps buyers discover products and lets phone-verified members and businesses publish ads. Unless a listing expressly says otherwise, Makett does not own the listed product, act as the seller, inspect every item, or become a party to the agreement between a buyer and seller.

Buyers must inspect products, confirm ownership and condition, agree delivery or collection terms, and use a safe payment method. A P2P, unverified-business, verified-business, trust-score, or verification label provides useful account information but is not a guarantee of identity, product quality, delivery, or repayment.

3. Accounts and verification

Every new account begins as a buyer account. You must provide accurate information, protect your password and one-time codes, and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. Email, phone, business, or identity checks may be required for particular features.

You may not create accounts for deceptive purposes, impersonate another person, evade a suspension, sell an account, or allow another person to misuse your account.

4. Seller types and standards

A phone-verified member may publish a P2P ad for hand-to-hand trading. An active business profile publishes as an unverified business until Makett expressly approves its verified-business status. Sellers must accurately describe each product, disclose material faults, show the full price and relevant charges, use authorised images, keep availability current, and honour lawful consumer rights.

Sellers must not manipulate prices or auctions, submit false bids, misrepresent verification, post duplicate or misleading listings, or move a transaction off-platform to avoid a safety restriction. Makett may ask for further documents, limit publishing, remove listings, or suspend seller tools when information is incomplete or risk is elevated.

5. Prohibited products and conduct

You may not use Makett to advertise illegal, stolen, counterfeit, unsafe, recalled, regulated, or rights-infringing products. Prohibited conduct includes fraud, harassment, discriminatory content, malware, scraping without permission, attempts to bypass access controls, and collecting another user’s personal data for an unrelated purpose.

6. Auctions and bids

Makett auctions accept bids only on Fridays between 9am and 3pm West Africa Time. A bid is a serious offer to buy at the submitted amount. You must review the listing and be ready to complete the purchase before bidding. Sellers may not bid on their own products or coordinate artificial bidding. Makett may cancel bids or auctions affected by error, abuse, illegality, or technical failure.

7. Optional protected checkout

Where available, buyers may choose Makett Protected Checkout instead of arranging payment directly with a seller. The checkout total may include a clearly disclosed service fee. Payment processing, release, refund, delivery evidence, inspection periods, disputes, prohibited items, and eligibility are governed by the checkout information shown before payment and any additional protected-payment terms.

Protected Checkout is optional and is not available for every listing. Makett must not describe or operate this service as regulated escrow until the required payment-provider approval, legal structure, seller payout checks, and consumer terms are in place. Enabling the technical feature alone does not create an escrow service.

8. Content, feedback and intellectual property

You retain ownership of content you submit. You grant Makett a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, watermark, reproduce, resize, display, and distribute that content only as needed to operate, secure, promote, and improve the marketplace. You confirm that your content does not violate another person’s rights.

Feedback must describe a genuine interaction, remain respectful, and avoid sensitive personal information. Makett may remove fraudulent, abusive, irrelevant, or manipulated feedback. A sold listing is removed from marketplace discovery but may remain available to its seller and through its direct link for transaction history and safety.

9. Enforcement and account closure

We may investigate reports, preserve relevant records, remove content, restrict features, suspend or close accounts, and cooperate with lawful requests where reasonably necessary to protect users, comply with law, or enforce these terms. You may stop using Makett at any time and request account deletion, subject to records we must retain for legal, fraud-prevention, or dispute purposes.

10. Availability and liability

We work to keep Makett reliable and secure, but do not promise uninterrupted availability or that every listing is accurate. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. To the extent permitted by Nigerian law, Makett is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, or loss caused solely by another user’s conduct.

11. Complaints, law, and changes

Send marketplace or account complaints to support@makett.com.ng. Consumer rights under Nigerian law remain available. These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and disputes are subject to Nigerian courts after reasonable efforts to resolve them informally.

We may update these terms to reflect new features, safety needs, or legal requirements. Material changes will be communicated through the service or the contact details attached to your account.

These platform terms are an operational draft and should be reviewed by a Nigerian lawyer before commercial launch.
